Trump nominated for Nobel Peace Prize over Israel-Iran cease-fire

US President Donald Trump has been formally nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in brokering a cease-fire between Israel and Iran.
 

The nomination was submitted on Tuesday by U.S. Representative Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), who praised Trump for what he called an “extraordinary and historic” effort in bringing an end to the armed conflict.
 

“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” Carter wrote in a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
 

Carter, who has represented Georgia’s 1st Congressional District since 2015, also highlighted Trump’s past efforts to contain Iran’s nuclear program.
 

“President Trump also took bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring nuclear weapons,” he added.
 

The nomination comes amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, with images of Iranian missiles streaking over the West Bank and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu touring bomb-damaged sites, including the Weizmann Institute of Science.
 

Trump, who previously received multiple nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize during his presidency, was seen boarding Air Force One on Tuesday as news of the nomination broke. A garment bag labeled “POTUS 45-47” sparked speculation over his continued presidential ambitions.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not comment on individual nominations, but the 2025 Peace Prize winner is expected to be announced in October.
