“There’s no way a man as disciplined as my husband can think of taking a woman home” -Ekaette Akpabio dismisses allegations of sexual harassment leveled against her husband by Senator Natasha

Unoma Akpabio, wife of Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has come to her husband’s defense, dismissing allegations of sexual harassment made by Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The controversy began when Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of denying her certain privileges as a senator because she had rejected his alleged sexual advances. The accusation quickly gained attention, sparking debates across political and social circles.

Speaking on Arise TV on Friday, Unoma Akpabio described the allegations as “unfortunate and demeaning” to her family, stating that her husband had always been surrounded by women throughout his political career but had never been accused of any misconduct.

“The accusation—I would rather call it unfortunate—is very demeaning because that is a family. We knew the husband before he married her. They were very good friends or are still very good friends, so I really don’t understand where this is coming from,” she said.

She further implied that such allegations are usually discussed and sanctioned within a household before being made public. Unoma expressed disbelief that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband would allow such claims to be made without first addressing the matter privately.

While the Senate President has yet to issue an official response, Unoma Akpabio’s remarks suggest that legal action may be taken to challenge the allegations.
