Pierce Brosnan has expressed his interest in returning to the Bond franchise. In an interview with Radio Times, the Black Adam alum talked about what would bring him back to the role of James Bond, which he essayed between 1995 and 2002, across four films. He said:

I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It’s great entertainment.

While Brosnan floated the idea as a joke, Amazon could capitalize on it. It would be a novel approach to Bond’s recasting over the years. With MGM having merged with Amazon, Bond’s faith now rests in the hands of the same studio that has dabbled in IPs like Reacher and Jack Ryan

Pierce Brosnan might be old, but the man can still play Bond if he wants to. While this would not be a mainline entry into the franchise, nothing is stopping Amazon from turning it into a streaming film or even a miniseries. However, James Bond fans have already made it clear they do not want the Bond franchise to receive the same treatment as other franchises. This means no spin-offs, whether they be movies or series.

However, giving a version of James Bond the Logan treatment is an interesting concept. An older Bond, who is long past his prime, must now deal with a world where spies are either becoming extinct or are no longer needed.

Given the numerous affairs that the character has had, perhaps one of these caused the character to sire another child he does not know about? Bond has canonically had at least two kids, so what’s a third? Now, Hollywood has milked the lone wolf and cub trope for quite a lot of franchises, and I really doubt it would fit the Bond franchise as well as it did to, say, Star Wars.

Fans have taken to the internet to speculate on the title of a film following an elderly James Bond. An entire thread on Reddit has decided to make old-age-themed puns about various Bond movies. They have suggested names like “The Pension is Not Enough”, “Double Old 7”, “OldenEye”, and “Octogenarian”.

The current hunt for the next face of 007 has no end in sight. It’s as if there is a frontrunner every time the month changes. For the longest time, Aaron Taylor-Johnson felt like he was locked in for the job. But then so did Henry Cavill.
